Crete is a Greek island that is located in the East Mediterranean Sea. It is the second largest island in the East Mediterranean and the fifth largest in the Mediterranean. The island has a population of more than 650,000 people. The largest city and the capital of Crete is Heraklion. There are only five other major cities on the island.
In the past, farming was the mainstay of their economy. Farming is still done today, along with stock breeding. This is also an area where olives are grown. The climate is great for this, as the weather never gets too cold during the winter. Between the months of November through May, the five major mountain ranges of Crete most likely will be covered with snow, but the plains and valleys get very little snow. What snow the lower regions do get does not stay on the ground for long.
This island is known to be the largest tourist destination of all the Greek Islands. They have two major airports and one smaller airport. Crete is popular with tourists because of their traditions and friendliness. The people of Crete are rich in tradition, and as a tourist, you will be able to enjoy their music and food along with their crafts. If you are looking for something different than normal tourist attractions, you will be able to discover mountain villages and hidden beaches in Crete. If you are interested in Greek history, this is a wonderful place to visit.
