Greece is a country located in Eastern Europe, near Italy and Albania. It is ancient and has a rich culture. Greek mythology is perhaps the most well known aspect of their culture. The gods and goddesses of Greek mythology reveal themselves as ageless humans with supernatural powers. These gods are no longer worshiped, but they are still prevalent within the country's culture.
In Greek culture men are involved in politics, agriculture, sailing, hunting, and trading. Most Greek women are housewives and stay-at-home moms. Greeks are very family oriented and they a pride in their culture. Many Greek females have a domestic education, where they learn how to cook, clean, sew, do dishes and laundry. Some of the favorite foods found in many Greek dishes are grains, figs, wheat bread, grapes, seafood and wine. Women are the ones who prepare many home made dishes, and it is considered disrespectful to them if you don't eat all of the they have meal prepared for you.
Dancing is an important part of Greek culture. In ancient Greece, there were more than 200 different dances. Today, the most famous dance is going in circles and holding hands. Another unique thing about Greek culture is the language. The language is spoken by 15 million people. Its history goes back to nearly 3,000 years ago. Greek language has influenced by the romance and Latin languages. There are many dialects that Greeks speak, such as Cappadocia, Cypriot Greek, Pontiac Greek, and Griko language. Most Greeks are Orthodox and they go to church occasionally. Easter is the most celebrated holiday.
Greeks are very hospitable toward other people, even strangers. Don't be surprised to receive a kiss on the cheek when meeting for the first time. Toasts are also very common during get togethers. If you hear "eisigiansas", know that a toast "to your health" has just been done.
