Alexander the Great is considered one of the best conquerors of all time. He was responsible for bringing ideas and culture to the countries he conquered. He is also considered to be responsible for developing western civilization. He was very artistic as well, and played the lyre. Some would say he was a very handsome fellow, even though he had two different colored eyes. There are also questions about his sexuality, as historians are unsure whether he was heterosexual or bisexual. He did father a child, however.
His parents were Olympius and Phillip II. He developed his fighting skills at a very young age, supposedly due to his father's guidance. As a child, he also trained a horse that no one else could break or ride but him. This was his beloved horse that took him through many battles. He even named a city after this horse, which is now Jhelum in Pakistan. He was well versed in the arts and sciences, supposedly through the tutoring and instruction from the great Greek philosopher Aristotle.
He became king in 336 BC, after his father was assassinated. Alexander claimed that his guide in conquest was Homer, who came to him in his dreams. His empire spread out from Greece into Egypt, India and Asia. His death was not caused by battle as some might think. He died after being very ill with fever. Some people say that he was poisoned, which caused the fever and eventually his death. He died at the young age of 33 on June 10th 323 BC.
