Greece has a very rich and colorful culture that we should all take some time to learn about. With roots in politics, romance, literature and religion, Greek culture has much to offer. Greece has been around for thousands of years and started with the Mycenaean and Minoan civilizations. The arts are a very important part of Greek culture, architecture, sculpture and paintings that have survived over thousands of years. From the remains of ancient Greece to the modern buildings of today’s Greece, you can see the ancient influence and byzantine design in most buildings in Greece.
Greek art rivals no other with painting and sculpture, from wood to marble. It has survived the test of time much like many things salvaged from ancient Greece. Though most marble sculptures were burned for lime and the bronze statues were melted for their metal, some were saved and survived due to being buried or lost at sea.
Today’s theater is highly influenced by the works of Plato and Aristotle as well as others. These famous writers were instrumental in the building of a democratic political base. Greece is also a basis of all language. Its impact has been felt on all the romance languages (Spanish, Italian and French). Rome housed the first democratic republic and has had a deep impact on politics all over the world. The Greek Gods and Goddesses still have influence and impact on today’s religion and superstitions. Due to the rich culture of Greece, the world has evolved into a better educated and well rounded set of societies.
