The nightlife in Greece is a big entertainment draw for tourists and locals alike. The bars, taverns, pubs and discos open around ten at night and stay open until six or seven in the morning.
The entertainment varies from traditional dancing and music played on 'bouzoukis' to modern international pop music. In Athens, you can find clubs with guest DJs from around the world. There are also jazz clubs and Latin clubs among other types.
They are many beverages from fine wines and beers to Greece's famous ouzo. There are many wonderful restaurants as well. The Greeks like to start eating beginning in the early evening through the night. The restaurants serve all kinds of international food, including traditional Greek food. There are bars with cafes on every corner.
The Greek Islands, such as Rhodes, Mykonos, Ios, Paros, and Santorini, among others, turn into party hot spots during the summer. They are many tourists attracted to this party atmosphere. You can take a cruise to the Greek Isles or fly from Athens to any of the individual islands.
Over the last ten years, there has been an increase in casinos in Greece. The largest casino is in a town called Thessaloniki in Northern Greece. There other casinos on the mainland and also on a few of the Greek Islands. The oldest casino is in Loutraki. It was built in 1928 and is easy to get to from Athens. The casinos have brought tourists to areas they might not otherwise have visited.
