Crete, Greece

The Minoan legacy is apparent all over Crete, the southernmost Greek island. Visit the Archaeological museum in Crete’s fifth largest city, Iraklio, and view for your self the impact the Minoans has had on the Crete culture. The Minoan ancient society is claimed to be the first advanced civilization in Europe as a whole. You will find remains of this culture all over the island and don‘t overlook them because they are extremely interesting.

Crete covers an area of thirty-two hundred square miles and has a population of over six hundred thousand people. The capital city is Heraklion. Crete keeps its own music and culture but it does self identify with Greece. The island is charming and offers tourists spectacular views, wonderful sandy beaches and fantastic nightlife. The city of Agios Nikolaos is a popular destination if you are looking to party. This city is dotted with upscale bars and restaurants and has something to offer everyone.

Journey to the eastern shores of the Island and visit Sir Arthur Evans recreation of the Minoan Palace. It is truly impressive. The Minoan civilization dates back to 3,000 B.C. and is considered to be truly remarkable. A trip to Hania, the former capital of Crete, is a must. A lot of their buildings are in ruins, but are still impressive. However, some rebirth has been taking place and quaint shops and restaurants have sprung up, all waiting for your visit.

Whatever preconception you may have had of Crete, your visit will be astoundingly beautiful, informative and, yes, even relaxing.
