The Plaka in Greece

The Plaka is a village in Athens, Greece. The Plaka is the oldest part of central Athens. It is one the nicest places to visit while you are in Greece. Besides the great authentic food, the shopping is an experience most people like to have. If jewelry is on your list, this is a great place to start.

They have a lot of jewelry shops that sell pretty much the same merchandise, because they all get it from the same distributor, but they do have some artist-owned jewelry stores. There are a hand full that make hand made custom jewelry, original pieces and copies of ancient museum pieces. One of the artist-owned stores is the Byzantino Jewelry Store. The gold is very reasonably priced in Greece. The price of gold is not cheaper, but the cost to make it is. So you can find a great deal while you’re there.

The George Dolkas T-Shirt Shop is a store that sells Olympic paraphernalia licensed by the Athens Olympic Committee. They have some very interesting T-shirts. They also have some very vulgar T-shirts. They also sell a selection of some of the more tasteful T-shirts in the Plaka.

The Monastiraki Flea Market is also a must visit shopping excursion. You should try to arrive before eleven A.M., because the crowds and the locals also like to hang out at this location. At this flea market you can do anything from purchasing ornate ceramic goods and Olympic trading pins to finding a vendor to write your name on a grain of rice.
