Greece is located in southern Europe on the Mediterranean Sea. It is a popular vacation spot due to the over 1,400 islands that surround it. Each island has its own beauty, characteristics, history, and culture. Some are inhabited, some are touristy, others are remote and quiet. But they all have loving Greek people with their well-known hospitality.
Crete is one of the largest island groups. It is the southernmost from the mainland. Crete is repeatedly mentioned in the Bible, relating to Paul's missionary tours. The scenery is breathtaking, with the combination of mountains, beaches and charming villages. The Minoan Ruins there portray one of the greatest civilizations from the past.
There are 39 islands in the Cyclades. Of these, 24 are inhabited. They are located southeast of the mainland. If you are looking for a cosmopolitan nightlife, these islands are the place to be. At the same time, there are also quaint villages, nice beaches and tranquility.
The Ionion Islands are located in the Adriatic Sea on the west side of Greece. The Ionian Islands display six main types of architecture: Corfu, Ithaca, Kefalonia, Kythira, Lefkada and Zakynthos. Each of these has its own beauty and details. These islands, along with the others, are known for their sandy beaches, beautiful scenery and villages.
This is only a few of the many islands to choose from. Summertime in the Greek Islands is warm and sunny so it attracts millions of Europeans for their annual vacation. If you visit one of the Greek Islands, you will probably want to see them all.
